PLATTSBURGH -John "Jack" Ryan, 83, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Plattsburgh on February 11, 1935, son of Theodore and Ruth (Laravie) Ryan.
Jack graduated from St. John's Academy and later attended St. Michael's College in Vermont.
He then entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country from 1954-1956.
Jack was a New York State Trooper in the Malone Barracks until he transferred to the Clinton County Sheriff's Department where he served as a Lieutenant.
Following his law enforcement career, Jack worked for Service Liquor Distributors where he worked as a sales representative until his retirement in 1994.
In retirement, Jack worked at Hometown Radio in Plattsburgh.
In addition to his previous employments, Jack also held various positions such as Automobile Salesman with his family business, T.J. Ryan and McMartin Motor Company, Department Head of Sporting Goods at Montgomery Ward, and a Teamster during the construction of Interstate 87.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, and the St. John's School Athletic Association.
Survivors include his son, Christopher John Ryan and wife Megan of Harleysville, PA; daughters, Mary Dyer and husband Sam of West Chazy and Alison Ryan and husband Andrew Mangum of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Ryan Dyer and wife Sarah, and Emily Dyer; one great-grandson, Easton Dyer; one niece and two nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Joan Perras.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.
Donations in his memory may be made to the CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility.
