Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – John T. Mitchell, 73, of Independence Drive, passed away, Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his family.

John was born in Plattsburgh on October 11, 1948 the son of Donald and Dora Mae (Miner) Mitchell.

He graduated from Dannemora High School in 1966 and SUNY Binghamton in 1970 with a Nursing Degree.

John married Maureen Willis at the Royal Savage on August 20, 1993.

John was a registered nurse for New York State Department Corrections.

He was a member of the Alpha Omega, B&B Hunting Club and PEF Retiree Association.

John played sports all four years in High School. He was in All County Band and Chorus for four years. John especially loved deer hunting, fishing and golfing with his brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen Mitchell of Plattsburgh; son, Jay Mitchell and his companion, Linsey Covey and stepson, Matthew and Lisa Miller of Peru; daughters, Jami Mitchell of Plattsburgh and her companion, Jeffery Laundry, Jessica Briehl-Mitchell and her companion, Brian Dominic of Plattsburgh; brother, Pat and Lee Mitchell of Chazy Lake; sisters, Mary Ann and Winston Lawliss of Dannemora, Tina and Tom Oddie of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Rita Mitchell of Dannemora and Diane Mehrman and her husband, John and brothers-in-law, Michael Willis and his wife, Terri, Kevin Willis and Brian Willis; mother-in-law,  Lorraine Willis; grandchildren, Savanna Briehl, Sebastien Mitchell, Emma Mitchell, Ava Miller and Elyn Miller; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, Harry and Lillian Mitchell, brothers, Donald and Tony Mitchell, sister-in-law, Kay Mitchell and Catherine Willis and a granddaughter, Hannah Boiani.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 9:00 am at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville, with reception to follow in the Church Hall.

A Celebration of John's Life will continue later Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm at Good Thymes in Plattsburgh.
