Joseph J.
Aesquivel
August 25, 1964 – June 14, 2024
Peru – Joseph J. Aesquivel, 59, of Howard Dr., passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Seattle WA., on August 25, 1964 the son of Frederick and Marlene (Polhemus) Aesquivel.
Joseph lived life to the fullest and had a zest for life that was unmatched. His life was the definition of overcoming adversity as he took on each challenge with strength, bravery, hope and humor. Because of these attributes he was an inspiration to all those he came in contact with and made a lasting impression on all those whom were fortunate enough to have been in his presence. Their lives are forever changed because of this and he will live on through all who knew him.
Before, age eighteen he had already lived in states that some people only dream of. He was born in Seattle Washington, moved to Alaska and then California before coming to the east coast and building a life here with the love of his life.
During his time here he accomplished many things including building their home that was fully wheelchair accessible and getting certified as a scuba diver. He took two once in a lifetime trips to Bonaire and the Fiji islands to put his scuba diving skills to use. There were three unforgettable vacations that were taken as well as traveling up and down the east coast. A twelve day road trip through the New England States, staying in the van with a couch, were campgrounds, rest areas, McDonald's parking lot and even hotel parking lots without paying, it was a safe location and no one from management came out to tell us to leave. Other nights were spent in a B&B and hotels before finally arriving at our cottage we rented in Cape Cod. Exploring the area and taking in the sights was what we did as well as played mini-golf. As Joe said it was free so we had to take advantage of it. Next was the Hawaii trip in 2000, Joe wanted the family together for the 2000 Millennium celebration. It was a trip to remember, share and reflect on. There was something for everyone to enjoy with its natural beauty and rich history. Finally, it was my turn to drive and across America was our next adventure- our final destination was to visit his dear friends in Henderson, Nevada. A small town just outside of Las Vegas . The trip took six weeks from home and back, in a minivan, with our Siberian Husky, Tuesday. We met up with his step-mom and dad as well as his youngest half-sister and dear friend Eddie and his wife, who drove from California to Las Vegas to meet with us.
On the way back we met up with mom, dad and Brock in South Carolina. Once back in New York Brock, deemed me an official truck driver. Joe enjoyed reading Stephen King novels in his younger years and even taking a couple of trips to see Stephen King's house in Maine. Joe was good at Jeopardy. His two favorite professional football teams were the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He indulged in different cuisine, the spicier the better. He was intelligent in many ways. Joe was great with numbers, geography, music, names and groups, he had a good business sense, and was able to relate to many different people. He enjoyed taking interest in our niece and nephews and their families, sometimes at family events or what we called driveway visits, Oreo cookies and stuffed animals were a couple things he would surprise the little ones with. One of his greatest joys was being on his boat with friends and family. He absolutely loved the feel of the ride and the sense of freedom it brought to him. He had many wonderful rides and experiences each summer thanks to his family and friends. So many wonderful moments we shared and experiences to embrace. I thank my JoJo for so many wonderful years of friendship, patience, teachings, time and love. Joe was perfectly designed for me. Forever on my mind, in my heart and soul. I will carry on all that he stood for and all he still wanted to accomplish. My darling, thank you again for the life we shared, you did well for yourself. I was always so proud of you. Until We Meet Again, Your Lovie.
