Swinyer

CADYVILLE – Joseph G. Swinyer, formerly of Route 3, passed away on November 12, 2024 with his loving friends by his side.
He was born on August 9, 1941 the son of Gordon and Agnes (Finnegan) Swinyer.
Joe graduated from Saranac Lake High School and Plattsburgh State University. He earned advanced degrees from Plattsburgh State University (Classroom Teaching) and the University Center at Albany (Librarianship).
He taught elementary grades at the former Keeses Mills School, Paul Smith, N.Y. and at Peru Central School. Later he was a member of the Library Faculty at Plattsburgh State University from 1964 to 1995. Following retirement, Joe worked as a consultant for New York State's Documentary Program. He was also a volunteer for the Adirondack Humane Society Thrift Shop and the CVPH Palliative Care Program. Joe was also active in the Town of Plattsburgh Democratic Committee, Area 4.
Joe was a member of St. Peter's Church from 1958 until his death. He was active as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, the CVPH Hospital Ministry, the Hospitality Committee and the Bereavement Ministry.
Lawrence C. Hart, his partner of 30 years died on April 14, 2005. Survivors include members of Larry's family, his daughter, Sharon (William), son, Shane (Theresa) and grandchildren, his sister, Margaret Hart LaBounty (Rufus), nieces and nephews.
Joe wished to acknowledge the care given over the years by the Mike Rascoe family and also Veronica and Cliff Matott, Dan Shusda, and Evan Anderson. These individuals made his last years easier.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 17th from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Church with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Joe requested donations to St. Peter's Church.
