June E.
Smith
June 3, 1929 – February 28, 2024
CHAZY – June E. Smith, 94, of Chazy, passed away peacefully at home, February 28, 2024, under the loving care of her family. She was born in Plattsburgh on June 3, 1929, the daughter of Norman and Ethel (Pike) Powell. June attended Peru Central School and the Crane school of music. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Alson R. Smith, on August 22, 1951. Their military life began which lasted until his retirement in 1971.
"Juna" as she was lovingly called by so many was the most precious, gentle, kind and humble lady. She loved the Lord and was a woman of great faith. Her Christian faith and family were the foundation of how she lived her life. June always made everyone feel so loved and special. Her handwritten cards, warm hugs, conversations and encouraging words are just a few of the countless ways she has filled our hearts. She had the best giggle and sense of humor, especially when the grandkids and great-grandkids were around. She loved family picnics when we were all together and would make her special macaroni salad we all enjoyed. This love for others is seen throughout her lifetime. Not only did friends of her own kids stop and hang out after school, but this continued with her grandkids bringing their friends as well. She always had special snacks and treats for everyone knowing what we each specifically liked.
June worked in the office at Plattsburgh Grocery where her husband was also a salesman. Upon her retirement she went on some of his routes where she was his chauffeur at times. June was very active in any church location she was at by sending out cards, arranging the flowers and teaching Sunday School. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dixie Smith and Beth (Dean) Wilson; sons, Alan Smith, Robert Smith (Alison Brown), and Guy Smith (Paula); brothers, Dick (Joyce) Powell and Jack (Sue) Powell; sisters-in-law, Colleen Powell and Jane Powell; grandchildren, Scott (Apryl) Smith, Jamie (Merritt) Billiter, Jennie (Chris) Cody, Joel (Kati) Wilson, Megan (Keenan) Monette, and Mindy (Donald) Coolidge. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren; Kia Smith, Ethan Smith, Jack Smith, Gradie Billiter, Alice Billiter, Jackson Cody, Henry Cody, Brodi Monette, Keira Monette, Thea Monette and Kai Coolidge.
June was predeceased by her parents; husband Alson; sister, Eleanor Calkins; brothers, Theron Powell, Marion Powell, Theodore (Ted) Fleury, Gordon Powell, and Ken Powell; and grandson, James D. Wilson.
