PLATTSBURGH – Kenneth (Ken) Billups passed away peacefully in his home on March 4, 2023. He was 64 years old and a lifelong resident of the North Country.

Born in Plattsburgh to Allen (Al) and Shirley Billups (Richardson), Ken graduated Plattsburgh High School in 1976, where he first began his love of hockey, solidifying his home on the ice in the goal crease and playing in numerous leagues throughout his life. He was a dedicated Canadiens fan, avid cyclist, and lover of nature and science.  Ken received a B.S. in Biology from SUNY Plattsburgh and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Buffalo during which time he worked as an intern at W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center.

Following his academic studies, Ken began his professional career in banking systems and later in the IT Department of SUNY Plattsburgh. Since 1992, Ken worked for Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, now University of Vermont Health Network, beginning as a Systems Analyst and eventually becoming Senior Interface Analyst.  He was proud of his career and considered CVPH his second family.

Ken had many achievements in his life but he was most proud of being a father. He loved nothing more than spending time with his sons Nathan, Treye, and Drew, who he affectionately nicknamed Ignatz, Tralfaz and Dreslop. He was always there for them, whether it was talking about the latest video game, cheering them on at their choral concerts and x-country track meets, or taking long walks and being their devoted confidant as they discussed life's challenges and their future goals. Ken was a talented colleague, loyal friend, and one of the world's kindest people whose bright smile will forever be missed by his community.

Ken is survived by his sons: Nathan, Treye, and Drew Billups of Plattsburgh, NY. In addition to his children, Ken is survived by his former wife, friend, and family partner Kristie Billups (Derusha) who together remained devoted parents to their children.

He was predeceased by his brother Craig (1991), mother Shirley (2004), father Al (2005), and sister Randy LaDue (2012).

A celebration of Ken's life will be held at R.W. Walker Funeral Home on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Gathering and service will take place from 3pm-5pm.
