Kevin
Shatraw
May 5, 1951 — Jul 26, 2026
Plattsburgh, NY
With much sorrow and love, heaven gained another angel. Kevin E. Shatraw, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.
Kevin was a naturally gifted drummer, and his love of music was fostered by his father and family at a young age. He started playing the drums in his family band, “The Knights”. He went on to play music from, big band, Jazz, County and Rock n Roll. Most notably as “Animal” in the Sunset Playboys. He continued to play in various bands, well into his 60’s.
Kevin was more than just a musician, he was kind, compassionate, a true friend, mentor and proud member of AA. A celebrated member and 40 years sober this year. Thank you to such an amazing organization, his sponsors and friends over the years.
Kevin had a variety of careers, which started at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, and ended with 20 years in the Plattsburgh Department of Public Works, where he built friendships and spread laughter.
Kevin will be remembered with a smile, a slight twinkle in his eyes, a funny story, an off-key song or a beautiful drum solo. But most of all he lived his life to the fullest and loved deeply with his entire heart.
“And now, the end is near and as I face the final curtain my friends, I’ll say it clear, I’ll state my case of which I’m certain, I’ve lived my life that’s full, I’ve traveled each and every highway, and more, much more than this I did it My Way” Frank Sinatra.”
Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Bonny Shatraw, sister-in-law, Ruth Stone, sons, Bryan Shatraw and Patrick (Kim) Shatraw, daughters, Dana and Charity (Wingman) Frusco. His deep love for his grandchildren will carry on through their hearts, Grace and Oliver Frusco and Abigail and Liam Shatraw; his siblings, Keith (Nancy) Shatraw, Karen LeClair, Ken (Rose) Shatraw and Kathy Shatraw; he leaves behind many family members and friends, as he touched many lives and his life was blessed by extraordinary friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Kevin Lee Shatraw.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Shatraw family home at a later date to be announced.
