Obituary

PLATTSBURGH- Kurt M. Stout was born to an Air Force father and a British mother on May 7, 1958, in Ipswich, England. As a military brat and naturalized US citizen, he saw many of the cities of the world before he even reached adulthood and lived in places like England, Germany and Amsterdam before finally settling in the United States. He served his country for three years in the US Navy and was a Search and Rescue crewman, receiving a Rescue Citation from Boeing Verton after a rescue of a ship's crew offshore in a horrible storm, a rescue that pushed their CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter to its absolute limits. Later, he was a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Through the years he also worked in sales, in finance, and almost anything in between that involved selling things because that was his one true talent.

Hurt, anger, and intimidation were guiding forces in Kurt's life which made maintaining close relationships with his family and childhood friends problematic. Though contact was eliminated, Kurt loved his family, and the loss left a huge hole in his life. Kurt found comfort in his Catholic faith in his last years, and enjoyed attending services at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Through his faith, he formed meaningful relationships that brought him peace and a sense of family that was with him through the end of his life.

Father, son and brother, Kurt was many things, both good and bad. He lived a life of extremes, he loved big, hated big, hurt big, dreamed big and he spent his life searching for a sense of family and belonging. Though his loss means many things to many people, there is a shared relief that he is home, and his soul is able to find peace.

Kurt Stout is survived by his parents, Alfred and Sheila Stout and his sister, Clare Magee. He is survived by his children, Brandi Arnold, Ryan Stout and Cheyney Stivalet, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Stout, who was also a veteran of the US Navy.
