PLATTSBURGH – In Loving Memory of Laura Fairchild Cabrera.

Laura Fairchild Cabrera, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend departed from this world on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the age of 64, surrounded by the love of her family, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a hard battle with cancer. Born on August 28, 1959, to Barbara Johnson, in Burlington, Vermont, Laura was the much anticipated and cherished daughter of Samuel and Frances (Flindt) Fairchild. She grew up in a loving home and was a graduate of Chazy Central Rural School. Laura went on to achieve her Associate's degree in nursing from Clinton Community College, setting the foundation for a dedicated and compassionate career in healthcare. As a registered nurse, she touched the lives of many with her skill, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. In her professional journey, Laura exemplified the true spirit of nursing, providing care that extended beyond the confines of duty. Her warmth, empathy, and healing touch left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to be under her care. She was a fierce advocate for those who were in need and spoke her mind freely against any injustice she encountered. Outside of her professional life, Laura found joy in the simple pleasures of family and travel. Her spare moments were filled with the laughter of her children, grandchildren, and extended family, and she enjoyed the adventures of exploring new places. Family meant everything to Laura, and her love knew no bounds. In her adulthood, she was able to track down and meet her biological family members, creating meaningful connections between everyone she loved. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing their lives with her. Laura is survived by her loving children, Christina N. DeJesus of Atlanta, GA, and Nicholas S. Cabrera of Plattsburgh; her parents, Frances Fairchild, Barbara (Sidney) Johnson; her siblings, John (Colleen) Fairchild, Jesse Fairchild (Camilo) Chavero, Stephen (Sherri) Glover, Thomas Glover, Lance (Kerri) Williford, Debbie (Bob) Collins; and her cherished grandchildren, Hector "Manny" and Joaquin DeJesus, Jair and Jaelina Pierce. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each touched by her kindness and love. Laura also leaves behind too many friends to mention by name as she was never a stranger for long and was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to a friend in need. Laura had a wide circle of family and friends, and her connections to them ran deep. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all of Laura's friends who showed up to support her and us during the last year of her life. She struggled to accept help from others, but she was very appreciative of their presence and love. Your support brought comfort and strength to her during a challenging time. Laura was predeceased by her father, Samuel Fairchild, her birth father, James Davis, and her daughter, Rosalia L. Cabrera. Their memory lives on as a testament to the profound impact Laura had on the lives of those, she held dear. A graveside service to honor and celebrate Laura's life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at a time to be announced at Riverview Cemetery in Chazy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Laura's memory to the Elmore Shelter in Peru, reflecting her compassion for animals in need and most specifically for her beloved dogs Macho and Toya.
