Obituary

The family of Leona ‘Christy’ Quinn of Plattsburgh (May 14, 1930 - October 17, 2026) who passed away peacefully at the age of 96, celebrates a life well lived. Christy leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, family, friendship, and service.

Born in Brentwood, Pennsylvania, Christy was the eldest child and only daughter of Lawson and Harriet (Triebsch) Christy. She graduated from Mercy College of Nursing and began a career devoted to caring for others, first serving as a United States Air Force officer and later building a distinguished 32-year career as a nurse manager at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

It was in Tachikawa, Japan, that Christy met her husband, John S. Quinn Sr., a U.S. Air Force navigator. They married on September 14, 1957, and built a life together in Plattsburgh.

A faithful member of St. John’s Parish for 67 years, Christy served through the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Rosary Society. Her commitment to helping others extended throughout the community, where she volunteered with the Interfaith Food Shelf, Mothers’ Club, Junior League, and Knights of Columbus.

Christy was also a master bridge player, participating in every bridge club Plattsburgh had to offer, including the Monday Club, Wednesday Club, and duplicate bridge! In her later years, she discovered a love for Mahjong and became an avid Mahjong player.

Her greatest joys, however, were found in family and the lives of her children. Christy was deeply involved in their activities and became one of the original Roadrunner hockey moms of the 1970s. She was also a steadfast supporter and scorekeeper for the Plattsburgh and St. John’s Academy swim teams. She relished her children’s friends as her own.

Throughout her life, Christy was the keeper of family traditions and the heart of countless treasured memories. Her home on Lake Champlain was always a true gathering place; it was a house built for family and friends where everyone felt comfortable and instantly at home. She possessed a remarkable strength of spirit and an extraordinary kindness that made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Her warmth touched the lives of family, friends, and neighbors, leaving an enduring impression on all who knew her.

Christy was a beloved and fabulous mother to her four children and their spouses: Shanuneen (Andy) Noel, Maureen (Tom) Ryan, John (Sue) Quinn, and Colleen (Bob) Brust.

Her 15 grandchildren adored their “Nay Nay,” and the countless memories they shared with her will be treasured forever: Carissa (John) Gaine, Johanna (Andy) Johnson, Alexandra (Joe) Ali, Kendall Noel, Shane (Emily) Ryan, Thomas Ryan, Keegan (Casey) Ryan, Shannon Ryan, John Patrick (Brooke) Quinn, Stephen Quinn, Matthew Quinn, Robert (Caitlin) Brust, Nicholas (Samantha) Brust, John Brust and Luke Brust.

Christy took great joy in her nine great-grandchildren: John and Ann Gaine, Sutton and Alden Ryan, Carter and Alexander Johnson, Elizabeth Brust, Scottie Ryan, and Harper Quinn. She also cherished her “bonus” daughter, Susan Pearl Byther (Doug and Rob).

Christy is survived by her true companion and best friend of the past 20 years, Richard Molholsky, and his three daughters, Martha, Katie, and Beth, along with their families. She is also survived by her brother, Lawson (Elaine) Christy; her favorite sister-in-law, Sandra D. Quinn; and her treasured nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 38 years, John S. Quinn Sr.; her parents; her brother, Carl Christy; and her in-laws, Thomas R. Quinn and Margaret Q. Kennedy.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Christy’s life will follow at noon at St. John’s Church, with a graveside service immediately afterward at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

All are welcome to join the family in celebrating and remembering our fabulous mom, whose light can never be extinguished.
