Obituary

Lillian Eva Kasper, 92, devoted mother, wife, and nurse, died on April 15th, 2026 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, with the comfort of her children by her side. Lillian was born in Wilmington, New York on November 10th, 1933 to Blanche V. Sorel and Alcide LaCourse. She grew up in the small mountain town of Newcomb and as a child survived Polio due to the devotion of her mother.

While in nursing school in Schenectady, Lillian went on a blind date with Robert John Kasper. Not knowing what to expect, she told him she had to be back in her dormitory for curfew by 10 p.m., but by the end of the date regretted this. Robert courted Lillan mostly through letters, since he was serving in the United States Navy, and they were married two years later in Scotia. They loved to dance and travel and shared 68 years together before Robert’s passing in 2023.

Shortly after their wedding in 1955, Lillian followed her new husband on his deployment to Naples, Italy. There, she became a masterful cook and gave birth to her first child. It speaks volumes to her courage and independence that she did this far from her family and friends, in a place where she didn’t speak the language, and in a time long before the common convenience of even international phone calls.

Lillian’s long and distinguished career as a nurse was defined by her hard work, dedication, and compassion for others. She saved lives in Corpus Christi, Texas, while working in the ER, and spent several years as a supervisor at Meadowbrook in Plattsburgh. Lillian also mentored many young women and men who went on to have their own remarkable careers. Somehow, she found the time to own and run the Apple Muffin Bed and Breakfast, participate as a member of Kiwanis and the Keeseville Ecumenical Choir, and raise four high-maintenance children on her own, since her husband was often aboard ship in the Navy.

Lillian loved nature and was an adept gardener. Her favorite flower was the yellow rose. She sang beautifully and everything had a song. She loved books and poetry, especially by Black women writers, and was always one of the first to read her granddaughter’s novels. A vocal and passionate supporter of women everywhere, Lillian’s only regret was that she did not survive long enough to see a woman become president. If she knew where they were, she likely would have died wearing her Hillary Clinton socks.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kasper, and her youngest daughter, Dr. Rebecca "Becky" Kasper. She is survived by her daughters Mary Kay Kasper and Theresa Kasper-Miller (husband Richard Miller), her son, Michael Kasper, her grandchildren, Connor (Kona) Miller and Jessica Kramer (husband Dustin Kramer), great-granddaughter Eowyn Kramer, and the most beautiful cat in the world, Suzie-Q.

A celebration of life will be held at Lake Forest Senior Community in Plattsburgh, NY on May 17th at 3:00pm. A graveside service will be held in Newcomb, NY. In the fall.
