PLATTSBURGH: Louise Hotaling. Reed, 92, passed away January 26, 2010 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, where she had been a resident since 2001. She died exactly 3 weeks after her husband, probably of a broken heart. Louise was born on January 14, 1918 in New Baltimore and grew up in Coxsackie, NY. She graduated top of her class from high school at age 16. Louise then went to Albany Medical Center Nursing School and received her RN. She married Porter B. Reed in 1938. They had 4 children. She worked as a nurse at Albany Medical and eventually moved to South Glens Falls where she began a long career with the Glens Falls High School as the nurse/health teacher at the high school. She later received a BA in teaching from Plattsburgh State after many years of taking courses during the summer months. Louise retired in the 1990s. She then moved to their home in Plattsburgh. She is predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Porter B. Reed Sr.; she is survived by her eldest son, Porter B. Reed Jr. and his wife Carolynn of St. Petersburg, Florida, and their children, Robin Baraybar and Porter B. Reed III; her second son Peter C. Reed and his wife Brana of Albuquerque, New Mexico and their children, Peter Christian Jr. and Justin; her daughter, Priscilla M. Reed of Plattsburgh, and his last son Philip Reed of Plattsburgh; and also 5 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Kehnan, and Megan Reed; Tessa and Reed Baraybar.
