Obituary

Lucy Smart, 84, of Morrisonville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born Lucy Stickle, she lived a life rooted in care, laughter, and deep devotion to those she loved. Lucy dedicated many years of service to CVPH, where she worked on the Labor and Delivery unit before retiring—a role that reflected her nurturing spirit and steady presence. Outside of work, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life: playing cards and dice, cheering on her favorite NASCAR drivers, sharing laughs with friends, and heading out to "the dance," where her warmth and love of fun always shone through. Above all else, Lucy was a top-notch grandparent. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she loved them fiercely, proudly, and without limits. Her home, her stories, and her unwavering support created memories that will be carried forward for generations. Lucy is survived by her brothers George (Maggy) Stickle of Keeseville and Albert (Barb) Stickle of Schuyler Falls; daughters Kimberly (Dale) Miller of Morrisonville, Tina (Donald) Hoffman of Westport, Robin (John) Downey of Cadyville and step-son Joe Rossi; her cherished grandchildren Jessica (Begeion) Bean, Kelly (Mary) Smart, Jenilee (Damian) Labombard, Joshua (Jinny) Venne, Heather (Matthew) Venne, John (Kalyn) Downey, and Katie (George) Gehrig; her great-grandchildren Starr (Anthony) Beam, Aizen, Claire, Madeline, and Michael; and great-great grandchildren Stella and Amara. She was predeceased by her former husband Clarence (John) Venne, her husband Albert Smart, her son Scott Venne, daughter in law Penny Venne and her parents Frances and Herbert Stickle. In honoring Lucy's wishes, there will be no services. A private family burial will take place in the spring. Her family finds comfort in knowing that her love, laughter, and legacy live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
