Major Edgar C. George, Sr., 88, of Charlene Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away on April 8, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was the husband of the late Major Margaret George.
He was born in Fall River, MA on September 10, 1936, the son of Arnold and Lena (Pillsbury) George.
Major Edgar C. George retired from active service as a minister in The Salvation Army in 2001. During his career, he served alongside his wife, Major Margaret C. George in various appointments in New York, including, Cohoes, Herkimer, Plattsburgh, Massena, Elmira, Ogdensburg and Gloversville. After retirement Edgar and his wife, Margaret settled in Plattsburgh.
Edgar's hobbies included fishing and square dancing. He also worked as a substitute teacher aid at various schools in the area.
Edgar is survived by his six children Major Edgar (Barbara) George, Jr. of Strongsville, OH; Lena (Larry) Wicks of Bellingham, MA; John George of Plattsburgh, NY; Major Paula (Don) Spencer of Springfield, MA; Mary (Glen) Cutter of Plattsburgh, NY; and Cheryl George (Dan Talbot) of Sharon, VT; his sister Mary (Steve) Ferguson of Independence, MO; as well as 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at the Turnpike Wesleyan Church.
Internment will follow at the West Plattsburgh Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Country.
