Obituary

PALM BAY, FL— Marcy Lynn Rivers passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018 in Palm Bay, FL. She was 25 years old. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 31, 1992, the twin daughter of Steven and Cheryl (LaPorte) Rivers. Marcy had a contagious smile, the absolute best laugh, and had a genuine willingness to help make anyone's worst days brighter. Marcy's compassion and kindness were known to all that surrounded her. She enjoyed listening to Janis Joplin, catching up with old friends, and loved being just a short drive to the ocean. One of her biggest enjoyments in life was spending time with her niece, Addilyn.

Marcy graduated with high honors from Beekmantown Central School in 2010. She continued her education at SUNY Plattsburgh, where she received both her Bachelor and Master of Science Cum Laude with a concentration in Early Childhood Special Education. Marcy enjoyed working at local restaurants while completing her degrees. She looked forward to seeing her regular clientele and catching up with them as often as she could.

She was most recently employed as a fourth grade teacher at Odyssey Charter School in Palm Bay. She was so enthusiastic to begin the coming school year, in which she would take on a new role in the ESE (Exceptional Student Education) program. Marcy was employed at The Devereux School and Jelly Bean Junction in Florida as well. In her spare time, Marcy served as a tutor and mentor to students in need. The dedication she gave to her students and colleagues was unparalleled. It truly made her family proud.

She was predeceased by her very beloved sister, Stephanie Ann Rivers. She was also predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Delores Rivers, maternal grandmother, Elizabeth "Ann" Shepard and aunt, Lynn Shepard.

She is survived by her parents, Steven and Cheryl Rivers of Beekmantown; a brother and niece, Jacob and Addilyn Rivers of Plattsburgh; her twin sister, Megan Rivers of Durham, NC; and her maternal grandfather, Jesse Shepard of West Chazy. Nick McGriff was a close friend that survives her as well. She leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and cousins too.

Marcy was a friend to all and leaves behind many that deeply cherished her friendship.

As quoted by one of Marcy's favorite authors, Sarah Dessen, "It's all in the view. That's what I mean about forever, too. For any one of us our forever could end in an hour, or a hundred years from now. You never know for sure, so you'd better make every second count".

Calling hours will be Sunday, June 10th, 2018, from1pm to 4pm at RW Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 11th, 2018, 10 am at St. Peter's Church, Plattsburgh. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to Autism Speaks at SUNY Plattsburgh and the March of Dimes.
