Obituary

WILLSBORO – Margaret (Breitenbach) Ricketson passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024 at the age of 101.

She was born in Hungary on June 1, 1923 the daughter of John and Lydia Breitenbach. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1928. Margaret grew up in Montreal Quebec, Canada in a close knit Hungarian community where she lived and worked until she was married.

In 1947 she met the love of her life, Russel Ricketson, at the city beach in Plattsburgh, NY. They married on May 20, 1950. It was at this time she became a naturalized American citizen. They resided in Plattsburgh where they raised their three children.

Margaret lived in her home until the age of 96. In 2019 she became a resident at the Champlain Valley Senior Community in Willsboro, NY.

Margaret was a loving, hard working, talented person. She was active in the Methodist Church in Plattsburgh for many years. She loved to read, travel, ski and do jigsaw puzzles. She was very crafty, a great seamstress, and a great cook. She loved to knit and together with her husband created a knitting business called M & R knits. They knitted many, many ski hats for 20 years.

Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved spending time with all of her family. Downhill skiing was a big part of many family outings and she enjoyed them. She also loved following her children and grandchildren through all their school years both in academics and sports. She was a very proud mom and grandma!

Margaret is survived by her children; Mark (Dottie) Ricketson, Gail (Chuck) Helfer and June (John) Zerrahn.

She leaves behind her grandchildren; Ian (Meghan) Ricketson, Aaron Ricketson, Eric (Meghann) Zerrahn and Stacy (Zerrahn) Burrell.

She leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Brogan Burrell, Emilyn Burrell, Kennedy Zerrahn, Karoline Zerrahn, Bryson Ricketson, Maddox Ricketson, Raylee Ricketson and Coleson Ricketson.

She is predeceased by her husband, Russel Ricketson, her parents, and her siblings.

We, the family, would like to thank the staff at Champlain Valley Senior Center for the tender loving care they gave our Mom during her time as a resident there.
