PLATTSBURGH - Marilyn Johnston, 92, formerly of Albany, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026 in Plattsburgh, New York surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 11, I 934. Marilyn graduated from Oceanside High School and went on for nursing training at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn.
She married the love of her life, Floyd G. Johnston in New York City on January 16, 1954. She then moved to live with him in the Albany area where they raised their family. Marilyn worked as an LPN and after retiring from St. Peter's Hospital, Albany she worked tirelessly as a private duty nurse in the Albany area. She was proud to be a nurse which was her life's calling along with caretaking of family members. Kindness was her essence. When engaged in conversation with Marilyn, one was always aware that she was entirely present with you. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Stephen A. Johnston, and his wife Catherine; grandchildren, Kara J. Johnston, Kyle S. Johnston, and Kristin N. Johnston, six great-grandchildren, her cousin Melissa Ashburn, her sister-in-law, Shirley Iodence and her friend Janet Bradley.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Floyd and her son, Michael B. Johnston.
Family and friends are invited and may visit with Marilyn's family on Saturday August 1st from 10-11am in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. A funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home following the visitation at 11am. Interment will immediately follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by going online to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, or by printing and completing the online donation form and mailing said form and donation to Memorial Giving 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Local arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the R.W. Walker Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
