Obituary

PLATTSBURGH— Marjorie V. Harrigan, 102, of Pine Harbour, Plattsburgh passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29 at CVPH.   She was born in a stone farmhouse in Ellenburg, NY, on August 14, 1917, the daughter of Oliver and Rose (Rabideau) Boyea.   Growing up on a dairy farm and living through the Great Depression, she learned to work hard, but also to enjoy the simple things in life, the best things.  Her indomitable spirit and laughter could light up any room.  Her greatest joy was in helping others.  She will be sorely missed.

Marjorie graduated from Ellenburg High School with a Regents diploma in 1934; she went on to attend Plattsburgh Normal School and graduated in 1937 with her teaching certificate.  She taught grades 1-8 over the next 9 years in four country schools. On June 8, 1941, she married Martin T. Harrigan; together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Ellenburg.  They had one child in 1948.  The family moved to Dannemora in 1955 when Martin took a job at Clinton Correctional Facility.  Marge began teaching at Beekmantown Central School in 1956.  She took summer courses at SUNY Teachers College at Plattsburghto complete her fourth year and received her Bachelor's Degree and permanent teaching certificate in 1958.  She taught 23 years at Beekmantown Central School, primarily in fifth grade, and retired in 1979 after 32 years of teaching.  Her many students remember her as an excellent teacher who really cared about them and made learning enjoyable.  After Martin's death in 1986, she moved to Set Point, Plattsburgh and lived there 24 years and then with her family in Vermont & Florida for 5 years before moving to Pine Harbour.

Marge enjoyed reading, Scrabble and crossword puzzles; sewing, crocheting and crafts; photography and making movies; traveling in the U.S. and abroad; music and gardening.  She especially liked being with family and friends and cooking and baking for them.  She volunteered at CVPH.  She was a member of NYS United Teachers, Champlain Valley Council of Retirees and St. Peter's parish in Plattsburgh.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeannie, and her spouse, John Panner, of Alburgh, VT; one sister, Bernice Collins of Plattsburgh; and many nieces & nephews and their families.  She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Raymond Boyea, Isabel Santamore, and Evelyn Bonville; and several nieces & nephews.

Marjorie's family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Pine Harbour management and staff for all the love and support they have provided over the last two years.

Due to current restrictions, services will be private for the family.  Entombment will be at the Town of Ellenburg Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.  A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St. Plattsburgh, NY 12901.  Online condolences may be offered at www.rwwalkerfh.com.  Donations in her memory may be made to the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf, P.O.
