SARANAC: Marshall B. Rasco, 74, of Silver Lake Road, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Saranac on July 7, 1936, the son of Frederick and Yvonne (Sidney) Rasco. Mr. Rasco married the love of his life, Harriet Benway, at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks on November 7, 1959. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Redford, American Legion Post 20, Champlain Valley Marine Corps League, and the United States Naval Academy Parents Club. Mr. Rasco was the salutatorian of his graduating class at Sallaz Academy in Redford class of 1954. He was a Marine Corps veteran serving from 1954 to 1958. After being honorably discharged, he worked on the construction of Plattsburgh Air Force Base. In 1963 he joined the Plattsburgh Fire Department and was a fireman for 15 years, retiring at the rank of Captain in 1978. An intrepid entrepreneur, he created and operated Rasco Realty Inc. where he purchased, developed, leased and sold residential properties in Clinton County. He then established and operated Beartown Saw Mill with his wife and sons. Mr. Rasco was appointed as a Saranac town official where he served as the Code Enforcement Officer for two years. Marshall led a principled life of example for his five sons. He was a dedicated and faithful husband, supportive father, and loving and generous grandfather. He lived his life pursuing his many passions. His never-ending search for knowledge and natural curiosity was a natural fit for such an avid reader and historian. A lover of animals, great and small, he trained horses as a young man and continued to train and keep animals his entire life. Marshall always looked forward to hunting season and fishing in the Saranac River and small brooks in the North Country. His passion for vegetable gardening was unparalleled. He loved to watch new life spring from the earth and share the bounty of his garden with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Harriet; five sons, Glen Rasco and his fiance Arlene Carroll of Cadyville, Steven Rasco and his wife Jill of West Chazy, Dennis Rasco and his wife Linda of West Chazy, Clark Rasco of Monterey, CA, and Dean Rasco and his wife Jaime of Hagerstown, MD; eight grandchildren, Tyler Rasco and his wife Lana, Sierra, Eric, Jacqueline, Mya, Ryan, Whitney, and Lindsay; four brothers, Mark and his wife Geraldine, Timothy and his wife Linda, Thomas, Paul and his wife Sandra; three sisters, Eleanor Leggett and her husband Patrick, Judy Carter and her husband David, and Mae; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Marshall Gabriel Rasco; an infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Rasco; his parents, Frederick and Yvonne Rasco; and brother, Blaise Rasco.Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh, with American Legion ritualistic service to be held at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption in Redford, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
