Hillman
May 3, 1960 – July 6, 2025
PLATTSBURGH – Matthew L. Hillman, 65, of Haynes Road, passed away on July 6, 2025 at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Amsterdam, NY on May 3, 1960, the son of Carl and Barbara (Paris) Hillman.
Matthew served in the United States Navy from September 11, 1978 to September 10, 1984. He retired from US Customs after serving from November 1987 to May 2016.
He married Stacey Leege Tripp on August 4th, 2001 in Plattsburgh.
Matthew had many interests including beekeeping, riding motorcycles, writing, watching movies and sampling good pie in diners all over the country. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Stacey Hillman; daughters, Heather and Holly Hillman and Erin & Miguel Engelhardt; in-laws, William & Beverly Leege; brothers, Brad (Patti) Hillman, John Paul (Sabrina) Hillman, Marc (Tami) Welden and Bill (Misty) Welden; sisters, Dawn Snyder, Belinda Crane-Isenhower (Steve); Monica (Michael) Staves, Jeri Lynn (Mark) Holloway and Marlene (Chris) Villanova; brother in law William Leege, sister and brother in law Sandi and John Karafa; grandchildren, Grace and Caroline Engelhardt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Barbara and Carl and his brother, Eric Weldon.
He will be remembered for his generosity and quirky sense of humor.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Turnpike Wesleyan Church. The family invites you to wear Hawaiian shirts to honor Matthew.
Memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers, St. Jude Hospital or the Turnpike Wesleyan Church.
