Obituary

Maureen Frances Karig (nee Riley), loving wife, sister, friend, and teacher passed away, Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Maureen was born October 27, 1956 in Newton, MA, the daughter of John and Patricia (O'Sullivan) Riley. Maureen spent her early years in Chelmsford, MA before moving with her family to Chazy, NY as a teenager.

She was a 1974 graduate of Chazy Central Rural School. Maureen earned her Bachelor's degree at the State University of NY at Plattsburgh, a Master's in Slavic Studies from Boston College, and an International MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix.

She spent nearly 30 years in management in various supply chain roles in domestic and international logistics and manufacturing, including multiple international assignments with multi-national firms. In 2010 she joined the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) as Senior Research Associate, managing UMSL projects for the Federal Trade Commission and various public utilities. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at UMSL, teaching international logistics and business strategy. In 2017 she was appointed Assistant Teaching Professor in the UMSL Department of Supply Chain and Analytics in the College of Business Administration where she taught until the time of her death.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Phillip of St. Louis, her sister Mary and husband Tony of Chazy, NY, her brother John and wife Rosie of Erie, PA, and brother Jim of Newport News, VA, as well as her sister-in-law Linda and her husband Joe of Huntington Station, NY. Maureen also leaves behind her many nieces and nephews of whom she was so proud.

Maureen was pre-deceased by her parents and mother- and father-in-law as well as her precious cat Gremi (short for Gremlin).

During the last two years Maureen received wonderful care and support from St. Lukes Hospital and the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis where she participated in three clinical research trials in the hopes of helping herself, as well as others.
Services were previously held in  Ballwin, MO.  Maureen has been returned to Chazy, NY where she will be buried near her mother. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Chazy, NY. A luncheon will follow at the home of her sister and brother-in law at 787 Stetson Rd, Chazy, NY.
