Obituary

Maynard Duane Rascoe, 82, of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away peacefully at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Maynard was born on July 22, 1943 in Plattsburgh to Mildred and Harry Rascoe.

On March 16, 1963 he married Margaret Ryan. Together, they had four children, Christine, Michelle, Dianna, and Jennifer. Their early family life began in Plattsburgh before relocating to Mahwah, New Jersey. Throughout his professional life, Maynard worked at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Mahwah, NJ, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and St. Luke’s Parish in Hohokus, NJ. 

Upon his retirement, they returned to Plattsburgh. Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and word searches. He was an avid Ham radio operator throughout his life (N2ZYJ). He especially loved watching the New York Yankees and spending time with his grandchildren. Friends and family will remember him for his sense of humor, work ethic, and devotion to his family.

Maynard is predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Harry Rascoe and his brothers, Gerald (Barbara), Richard, and Michael (Brenda). Maynard is survived by his wife, Maragaret, his daughters Christine Myers (Daniel, Samantha, and Alexander), Michelle Giraud (Michael and Bradley), Dianna Bastemeyer (Hank, Margaret (Rosie), and JR), and Jennifer DeGraaf (Kevin and Mackenzie), siblings Beverly (Dennis) and Dale (Esther), beloved sisters-in-law, Alice and Grace, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Church of Holy Cross Parish in Plattsburgh, New York. A light reception will be held in the Emmaus Room following mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children and the American Heart Association. 

Maynard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms... I am going there to prepare a place for you." (John 14:1-3)
