Obituary

Michael A.  Salimando was born on March 5, 1950 in the small town of Chazy, NY. Mike passed away peacefully on May 10, 2022 .

Mike was a fixture at the local and beloved Tony's Grocery Store as a child. The store was a labor of love built by Tony and Marian Salimando where all of the Salimando children grew up. Chazy folklore says Mike met the occasional mobster, movie star and gypsy when they stopped to fill up with gas, grab a snack or some beer.

Mike graduated from Chazy Central Rural School in 1968 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  Mike excelled in the Marines having been one of the Brendler's Boys soccer team Chazy Eagles.  The Drill Instructors didn't like the fact that he was faster and stronger than them, but Mike became known as Mighty Mouse. Mike inherited his physical prowess from a Milne family lineage that included Olympic speed skaters and world record barrel jumpers.

After the Marines Corps Mike lived an exciting and interesting life. He held a variety of jobs, to include construction, sales, private investigator, and painter. He worked for many years at the Auction House in Alburgh, VT, became an aficionado of collectables and loved all yard sales.

Mike was a kid at heart, had a heart of gold and was an expert practical joker. He was the kind of person who enjoyed the 60s and dearly held on to them.  His passions were treasure hunting, horticulture, occasional pyrotechnics display, and his three beloved dogs.

Mike was predeceased by his mother and father, Marian and Tony Salimando of Chazy. He is survived by his loving family: ex-wife Cindy Lutz and their son AJ Salimando of St. Simon's Island, Georgia; his older sister Christine Wassermann of Plattsburgh, her daughter Paula Kronsperger and family of Montana; younger sister Cindy Brunelle, her daughter Andrea Earley, grandson Landon Salimando of Chazy, and Landon's father Omar Bouallala of Montreal, CA; youngest sister Lori Salimando-Porter and her husband Joe of Chazy.
