CHAMPLAIN – Michael J. Tetreault, 97, of Champlain passed away Friday, August 12, 2022 at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Champlain on September 29, 1924 the son of Eldege and Maria (Poulin) Tetreault.

Michael attended Coopersville one room school and later completed his GED.

He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946.

Michael married Irene Racine on June 7, 1952 at St. Mary's Church in Champlain.

Michael had been a dairy farmer in Champlain before becoming disabled in 1959. He became an extraordinary chef and was widely known for his bread baking abilities as well as French cuisine.

His favorite hobby was sitting in his rocking chair reading cookbooks and playing poker or bridge.

Survivors include sons, Michael Tetreault, Jr. of Champlain and Alan Tetreault and his husband, Dr. David Cohen of Plattsburgh; daughters, Donna Tetreault and her life partner, Joan Mayer of Tucson, AZ and Fay Klein and her husband, Ray Coughlin of Warren, RI; brother, Felix Tetreault and his wife, Rosalee Tetreault of Champlain; sisters, Marie DiCarlo and Alice Tetreault both of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Richard Tetreault, Douglas Tetreault, Natalie Tetreault, Nicole LaFountain, Maria Martinez, Alex Martinez, Charles Tetreault, Matthew Tetreault and Renee Bull; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Irene Tetreault; sisters, Emma Tetreault, Rita Laurin, Theresa Antil and Agnus Bechard and brothers; Emile Tetreault, Girard Tetreault, Raymond Tetreault, George Tetreault and Louis Tetreault.

A private service will be held for the family.
