Nancy Ann
Carey
November 3, 1940 – December 31, 2024
PLATTSBURGH– The Lord welcomed into His arms our mother, Nancy Ann Carey, 84, of Plattsburgh, formerly of Burke, NY, who passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone.
She was born in Malone on November 3, 1940 the eldest child of the late Philip and Anna (McNierney) Tavernier. She graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1959. Nancy was married to Donald F. Carey on April 18, 1959 at St. George's Church in Burke, NY. Together they operated Carey Dairy Farm until our dad was called to greener pastures in heaven on July 28, 2011. Our mom could be seen taking pride in painting all 33 windows in red trim on the 100 year old farm house. Mom could spruce up anything with paint. She was always active in the community and held offices in the Chateaugay Central School PTA and was a member of Catholic Daughters for 31 years. Her love of shoes guided her to sell footwear with Tru-Stitch. Mom was able to 'see' the potential of any house and sold real estate with North Country Realty from 1987 to 1997.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her husband, two sisters Judy Tavernier in 1989, Joan (Thomas) Soulia in 2006 and her brother James Tavernier in 2017.
Survivors include three children: Lisa Frennier of Plattsburgh, Ellen Carey of NYC, Matthew (Melissa) Carey of Burke, NY; two grandsons Carey (Amanda) Frennier of West Chazy and Casey Frennier of Longview, TX; two great-grandchildren: Bryton and Adalyn Frennier; one brother Hugh (Sondra) Tavernier of Findley, OH; three nieces and nephews, Philip (Amanda) Soulia of Malone, Ann (Greg) Gelting and Jon Tavernier both of Charlotte, NC; several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 9th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with family receiving guest prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay. Burial will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Burke.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Burke Fire Department.
