Obituary

Nicholas Harlan Walker, 58, of the Standish Rd., died peacefully April 28, 2010 after a long struggle with liver disease and complications from diabetes. He was the son of the late Dr. Philip C. and Helen F. Walker of Plattsburgh, brother of the late Mark Walker of Washington, D.C., and grandfather of the late infant Isabelle Rose Recore. He is survived by his daughter, Rheta Vann Recore and son-in-law Michael Recore; tw grandchildren, Connor and Elizabeth Recore, all of Dannemora; his sister, Elizabeth W. Bosworth and brother-in-law Nelson Bosworth of Point au Roche; his niece Sara Walker Bosworth of Chicago; his nephew Geoffrey Philip Bosworth of Washington, D.C. and his sister Rachel of New York City. Nick was the quintessential free spirit who chose to live close to the Adirondack Mountains where he was better able to commune with nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, playing his guitar and cards with his buddies at Conklin Pond. Throughout his life, he was resourceful, resilient and tenacious. Nick was very well liked for his generosity, wit and loyalty. Nick graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1969 and attended Adirondack Community College. He was a certified pipe fitter/welder working throughout the United States but primarily within the Northern tier of New York State. He possessed a strong work ethic and was respected by his associates. Nick was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe fitters Local 773. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the R.W.Walker Funeral Home 69 Court St. Plattsburgh. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 9:00 AM at Saint Bernards Catholic Church in Lyon Mountain. Donations in Nicks memory may be made to the Friends of Point au Roche, P.O. Box 2923, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
