Obituary

CHAZY LAKE - Patrick Michael Mitchell, 69, of Chazy Lake, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 20, 2024 with his loving family at his bedside.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 17, 1955 the son of Donald and Dora (Miner) Mitchell. Much to the chagrin of his older sister, Mary Ann, he was a "Patrick" instead of a "Patricia" which she lamented to her second-grade teacher about. He assured her, that even though she had gained another baby brother, instead of a sister, that she would love him deeply and she faithfully has from that day forward.

Patrick graduated from St. John's Academy in 1973 after undefeated Junior and Senior football seasons and with his Bachelor of Arts from Plattsburgh State in 1977. He joined the New York State Police in September of 1978 and dedicated 33 years of his life to serving the people of New York before retiring as Senior BCI Investigator in 2011.  Even in retirement, Patrick often shared that he was "going on patrol" when he spent his days driving around the back roads of the North Country soaking in the land he loved so much.

Patrick cannot be defined in a few sentences as all that knew him would describe him as quite the character. He had a larger-than-life personality and was an avid outdoorsman who loved reeling in a big fish (yes, some of his fishing tales are actually true), duck hunting with his lifelong friends and a sunset cruise on Chazy Lake. Memories with his beloved wife and daughter were made around campfires, Sunday afternoons with the NY Giants, over lobster rolls on the shores of Maine and down at "The Shack." He was a friend to all, a mentor to many and a menacing presence for a few (you know who you are).

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Lee Anne, of Chazy Lake; his daughter Courtney and her partner Jon Seguin, of Plattsburgh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Winston Lawliss of Dannemora, Tina and Tom Oddi of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Maureen Mitchell of Plattsburgh and Rita Mitchell of Dannemora, and nieces and nephews throughout the state.

Patrick was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Donald Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell and John Mitchell; Sister-in-law Catherine Mitchell and his beloved dog, Bear.

His family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Northern Nephrology, the HK Freedman Renal Center and CVPH for the care and support they provided Patrick over the last few years.
