Obituary

PLATTSBURGH---- Ransom "Eddie" Spinner, 58, of Margaret St. Plattsburgh, passed away Thursday September 5, 2019 at his home.

A Life Worthy of Continued Celebration!

As we shed a tear because you are no longer with us, in our hearts we are comforted knowing that you are in a better place.  Your body may have been broken, but by the Grace of God in whom you trusted, your spirit soared.  Eddie, you were a dreamer and set your standards high. A man with a sharp mind and the heart of a lion. Fiercely independent and determined to give your very best no matter what.

As you went about your day, you left a lasting impression on everyone you met.  With a "can-do" attitude and your desire to achieve, there came an ability to form the kind of bonds which endured, yes, even from kindergarten to this very day. You were courageous, an inspiration, and a true overcomer! By the person you were and the way you lived your life, you spoke volumes to those blessed enough to have spent quality time with you.

Folks witnessed you " hiking " the block on Clinton Street near your apartment, walking stick in hand and with deliberate steps you made your way slowly through in the sunshine, the rain and even in the snow. The outing not complete until you climbed up the 23 stair steps to the apartment you called home for about 30 years. It was this kind of determination and commitment that kept your legs strong helping to maintain your independence.

After such a work out, it was good to stop by Pizza Bono for a bowl of the best homemade soup and crackers; we are told while there at your booth you even shared a favorite recipe or two of your own. We also know, Eddie that you enjoyed books, collecting special things and visiting all of the second-hand and pawnshops where you just loved to "make a deal".

Honing your reading and writing skills with the help of literacy volunteers, you did become the writer you always wanted to be, authoring volumes of hand-written poems and life stories, recording years of dreams and experiences in faith.

One of your greatest joys came in your early 30's, when you met your birth mom and dad for the first time, and learning that you had a brother and three sisters.  What treasures you held in your heart as you genuinely cherished spending time together, breaking bread, and sharing what was so very important to you.

Your most recent accomplishment came as you began your study with the Franciscans at St. John's Parish. Studying hard for three years, you built upon your foundational faith in God, participated fully, and gained recognition as a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. You were scheduled for induction into the Sacred Heart Fraternity on October 13th, a Roman Catholic religious order founded by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th century.

Early in September 2019, Eddie was called home to be with his Friend, his God, the Restorer of his Soul (psalm 23:3), the Provider of his dreams and visions, the Source of his Strength through out his 58 years in this world.

Left behind to cherish memories of Eddie are: birth mom Joyce Hyde of North Bangor, brother Rupert Hyde Jr. (Angie), sisters Cindy Drew, Brenda Lohr (Greg), Lorrie Marshall (Barry), foster sister Alice Mattoon, foster brother Henry Venne (Jane), several aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews. Eddie was predeceased by: natural father Rupert Hyde, brother Percy Hyde who died as an infant, and foster parents Roland and Betty Venne of Chazy Lake.

We believe that Eddie now runs freely though the fields of heaven, laughing and playing with Jesus and with the Angels who often visited Eddie in his dreams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday October 5, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. A reception will follow in Church Hall after which we will travel to Dannemora for burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery behind the Church.
