Obituary

Rhoda Martin Hess Knapp, cherished nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18th, 2026 in Plattsburgh, NY after a sudden illness. She was born on September 19th, 1941 in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Clinton County, NY for the past 40+ years.

She is survived by devoted husband of 57 years, James Knapp; sisters, Rachel Ruhl, Miriam Kreider, Mary Angell; brother, Caleb Hess; daughter, Deborah Cutting and son-in-law Andrew Cutting, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sister, Eunice Jones; and brothers Daniel Hess, Nathan Hess, and John Hess.

Rhoda became a nurse through Lancaster General Hospital. She worked for Dr. Edmond McLane in oral surgery, and for Dr. Richard Lutinski in family practice. After retiring, Rhoda enjoyed volunteering regularly at Birthright of Plattsburgh.

She was an active member of Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene with a heart for missions. She was a greeter on Sunday mornings, and especially enjoyed her time serving in the church nursery. She dedicated her life to loving and serving the Lord, and her spirit now rests with Him in heaven.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 9:00 to 11:00am at Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene, 187 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
