Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – Rieta J Blossom, 90, of Willow Beach, passed away, Wednesday, March 31st at CVPH after a brief illness.

She was born in Lyon Mountain NY on April 20, 1930 the daughter of Henry and Alma Begore.

She was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School, St. Petersburg Jr. College and Russell Sage College where she majored in Nursing at both.  She was a member of Sigma Theta Yau International and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

She married Lawrence Blossom of Plattsburgh and soon after had a daughter Sharon Lee.  Larry's career with Montgomery Wards took the family to several locations on the East Coast including St. Petersburg FL, Highland, NY and Cohoes, NY.  Larry and Rieta moved back to Plattsburgh in the early 1990's and settled into a long and comfortable retirement until Larry's passing in 2018.  She will be remembered best for her fabulous, world class, made from scratch carrot cake and her total love and devotion to her many feline friends over her lifetime.

Along with her husband, she was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Helen Siddon of Massena, and her beloved brother Quentin Begore, who was tragically killed in the Battle of the Bulge.

Survivors are limited to her daughter Sharon and Sharon's long-time domestic partner, Robert F. Smith of Cohoes. Special thanks is given to her devoted Health Care Aide, Michelle Ryan of Plattsburgh, who was largely responsible for Rieta's ability to live out her final years in the comfort of her home.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in her memory may be made to Elmore ASPCA.
