Obituary

REDFORD – Rita A. Wilson, 78, of Elm Street, passed away, October 29, 2021.

She was born in Redford on December 13, 1942 the daughter of Victor and Dora (Pellerin) Terry.

Reet married Henry "Hank" Wilson on September 23, 1961 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford.  Recently in September while attending their great-nephews wedding, Reet and Hank were honored as the longest married couple in attendance, 60 wonderful years!

She attended Sallaz Academy in Redford and later went on to work at Plattsburgh State University where she retired after 31 years of service working in the Bursar's Office.

During retirement while spending winters in Florida she enjoyed being part of a large community of relatives and friends. She cherished opening her home and hosting anyone who wanted to visit. Reet along with her husband, Hank, also began a tradition of volunteering as Marshalls at various PGA tournaments each spring.

Reet was an invaluable member of the Church of the Assumption in Redford, NY. The Redford Picnic Dinner was her labor of love. She took responsibility for all aspects of the dinner. She was the driving force which ensured hundreds of people were fed as the town celebrated the 15th of Redford.

Throughout her life she enjoyed numerous activities which included; bowling, golfing and camping. She was an avid hockey fan of the men's team at Plattsburgh State University. One of her biggest joys was following her niece, Ashley, throughout her hockey career culminating with the Cortland Women's hockey team. She especially enjoyed the road trips and all the players could rely on Aunt Reet to provide homemade snacks and enthusiastic support.  Reet was also a member of the American Legion 1618 Auxiliary in Redford.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Hank Wilson;  brother, Buck (Sandy) Terry;  sister, Theresa Wood;  brothers-in-law, Fred (Kathy) Wilson, and Larry (Karen) Wilson;  sisters-in-law, Lana Wilson, Joan Wilson, and Susan Wilson;  three nieces;  and twelve nephews.  Reet was also a Godmother to many including numerous nieces, nephews, and friends of the family.

She was predeceased by her parents;  mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Esther Wilson;  brothers-in-law, Lance Wilson, Charles Wilson, Jeff (Jean Lee) Wilson, and Richard Wood;  and nieces Tammy Wood and Kimberly Wood-Witt.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the amazing outpouring of love and support from the community, law enforcement as well as various volunteer organizations and individuals too numerous to name. Their efforts were a comfort during this very difficult time.
