PERU – Rodney P. LaPlante, 68, of Telegraph Road, passed away, September 1, 2023.

He was born on January 9, 1955 in Plattsburgh, son of Taylor and Marion (Boodrow) LaPlante.

Rodney attended PHS and after high school, had a few jobs.  He worked for Overhead Garage Door Company for 30 years until he had to leave his job due to progressing COPD illness.  He battled this disease for many years.  As a second job, Rod also delivered the Press Republican newspaper for a few years.

Rodney learned many skills from his father including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanic's.  He helped his father build a camp in Buena Vista Park in Willsboro where he had many good times.

Alongside his father, Rodney worked on cars they would buy, and together, completely fix them up, bodywork if needed, and then sell them.  He had a love of Harley motorcycles,  which he owned and rode often.

He also had a great love of animals and had many dogs and cats, and leaves behind his little companion, Sasha.

Rod was generous with his time and willing to help out anyone when someone needed him.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Pamela LaPlante; son, Kiel (Rosey) LaPlante and their children, Zoey and Liam; three daughter's whom he raised, Tina Arena and her son Jaden, Shari (Derrick) Miner and their son Zachery, and Lisa Arena and fiancé Carlos Ortiz Gonzalez and their son Izaiah.  Rod also leaves behind his sister, Sheila Deso and her son Chad Deso.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
