Obituary

Romeyn (Miney) Rowlson

December 30, 1950 - December 17, 2025

Miney was born in Plattsburgh to loving parents Ira A. (Buss) Rowlson, Jr. and Jane Prescott Rowlson.  He graduated from Plattsburgh High School, where he enjoyed participating in three varsity sports.  He earned a Bachelor's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, and had the opportunity to play football alongside his oldest brother, Alan.

Miney lived his life in public service: first in the military; then afterwards, working for the federal government in a number of capacities.  In 1976 he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps.  He completed Officer Candidate training in Quantico, VA, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.  Afterwards he went to NAS Pensacola, FL for aviation training as a helicopter pilot.  Miney achieved the rank of Captain and was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1981 from the Air Station in Tustin, CA.  He continued his military service in the USMC Reserves as a pilot out of the Westover AFB, MA, from 1981 until 1983.

Miney was always ready with a joke and a smile and will be remembered as a fun-loving person.  Once retired and living back in Plattsburgh, he often enjoyed sharing lunch and a beer with his brother Chris.  An avid reader, he found happiness both in shared laughter and in the quiet companionship of a good book.  His life touched many in meaningful ways, leaving behind warm memories that will remain with all who knew him.

Miney is survived by his son, Nathaniel Romeyn Rowlson of North Charleston, SC and his daughter, Margaret Page Rowlson of Fairfax, VA.  Also surviving are his brothers Alan (Elva), and Chris (Mickey) Rowlson, his sister Becky (Ernie) Witkowski, along with loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A family celebration of life for Miney will be planned for a later time.
