Obituary

PLATTSBURGH –Rosa-Belle Johnson, "Mother Dear", age 96, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 4, 2022.

Rosa was born on June 11, 1925 to Sol and Mary Butler in Estill, SC.

Rosa graduated from Carver High School while living in Savannah, GA, and later went on to earn a college degree from South Carolina State in Orangeburg, SC. On a chance during a visit to see her father living in Harlem, NY, she met a young Army Air Corp Airman by the name of Charles B. Johnson, Jr, who was on leave at the same time.  They were married for over 50 years, prior to his passing in 1996. "Mother Dear" assumed her role of a military wife, military mom, and raising 7 children, traveling to various bases with assignments, and took it with the greatest ease. Asides, from all of the children's scouts, school, and sports activities, she was a strong advocate for people suffering from Autism. Whether it was serving on boards or hosting families seeking to start a new life in our country, "Mother Dear" would always find the good in people, who she would run across.

In addition, besides her husband passing she was predeceased by her parents, brother Walter, her sister-in-law, Wilma, her brother-in-law Bernard, her daughters, Mary Ann Williams, Joyce Thomas, and son, Steven B Johnson.

Left to carry on her legacy is her daughter, Carolyn and son-in-law, Frank Williams, Jr of Savannah, GA, and their children, Frank Williams, III and Montranese Walker;  son-in-law, Pastor Melvin Williams, Sr. of Savannah, GA, and his children, Melvin Willaims, Jr., Maurice Williams, and Marlon Williams;  and Joyce's children, Reginald Maxwell, Carol Maxwell-Issac , and Karla Thomas all of Albany, NY.

She also leaves behind her son, Edwin Johnson, of Plattsburgh, NY, and his children, Rouvel Phillips and Eric Johnson;  son, Herman B. Johnson of Plattsburgh, NY;  son, Charles B. Johnson III, and her daughter-in-law, Dianna Parisi, of Delmar, NY, and their children, Natasha Charron, Lydia Johnson, Natalie Johnson, and Aaron Johnson. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
