Obituary

Plattsburgh – Roy Stewart Seem, 74, passed away on September 19th surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle against Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born in Northampton, England on July 15, 1949 to Pauline Archer. Roy and his mother emigrated to the U.S. at 6 years old when Pauline married U.S. Army Sgt. Donald Seem. Roy missed England but faced challenging situations with determination and optimism attended 13 schools over the course of 12 years, making friends and doing well in school wherever he went, and managing to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming an Eagle Scout after just three hard working years in the Boy Scouts. After high school, he served in the army from 1968-1970.

Roy met the love of his life, Linda Friend, on Ft. Hamliton Army Base in Brooklyn, and they were married in 1969. They established roots in Brooklyn, creating a happy little family with their only child, Danielle. Roy spent the better part of his career as a commercial photographer and instructor at Fashion Institute of Technology. As a young man, he also discovered his passion - riding, racing, and building vintage motorcycles. He raced with the Association of American Motorcycle Road Racing for many years, and after retiring from road racing he joined the crew of Team Obsolete to continue his involvement in the sport. Roy ended his career in Plattsburgh driving a school bus for the Plattsburgh City School District.

Roy also loved to travel, visit his family in England, read, listen to music, walk through museums, garden, go camping, and hike. His greatest joy was doing all these things with his family, especially his grandchildren Grace, Alex and Malcolm whom he cherished.

Roy was predeceased by his parents, beloved sister Leonie, and his brother Radcliffe. His survivors include his wife Linda, daughter Danielle, son-in-law Eddie Suarez, grandchildren Grace, Alex, and Malcolm, Leonie's children Rachel and Mathew, sisters Nadine, Donna, and Peggy, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins both in the U.S. and in England. The family has enormous gratitude for the special people who cared for Roy at the end of his life: Eli, Brittany, Angela, D.J., Heather, and the support of Hospice of the North Country.
