Dominy

PLATTSBURGH Ruth W. Dominy, a resident of Plattsburgh, NY for over 75 years, died on April 8, 2023 at her home. Ruth was born in Glens Falls, NY on December 4, 1924, the only daughter of Rolland C. and Clara L.K. (Williams) Williams. Mrs. Dominy attended the District 6 School of Fort Edward, NY; South Glens Falls High School and Plattsburgh State Teachers College – earning bachelor's and master's degrees in Home Economics Education. She worked at an insurance company in Glens Falls prior to college, and upon graduation, taught Home Economics in Corinth, Keeseville, Morrisonville and Beekmantown schools.
While attending college, Ruth met the love of her life, Gerald H. Dominy. They were married in the Dutch Reformed Church of Fort Miller, NY on July 3, 1948. They settled in Plattsburgh to raise their family of three daughters and one son; and celebrated 72 years of marriage until Gerald's death in 2020.
Ruth was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Plattsburgh for many years - serving as Moderator, and participating in the Women's Guild and American Baptist Women. She also served on various committees for American Baptists at the association and regional level. Mrs. Dominy was also a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary – Clinton County Camp, several Retired Teachers and Home Economics organizations, as well as the Mothers Club of Plattsburgh.
Ruth also judged Domestic Arts at the Clinton County Fair for many years, and judged recipes for cookbooks produced by several organizations.
In her retirement, Ruth served many years as a volunteer and Treasurer of the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf. She also volunteered at the Kent DeLord House Museum serving as a Docent and Board President.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed cooking, sewing, and preserving produce from the family garden.
Survivors include her Daughters Esther N Dominy and Martha A Dominy of Plattsburgh; Son Allan G and his wife Joni G Dominy of Fayetteville, NY; Grandchildren Alexandra G Dominy and Gregory A Dominy of Fayetteville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald H. Dominy; daughter Laura J Dominy; granddaughter Victoria Rose Dominy; and brother and sister-in-law, Roscoe L and Harriet S Williams.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Beekmantown Cemetery (Ashley Road).
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the: Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf (127 Beekman St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901); Kent DeLord House Museum (17 Cumberland Ave, Plattsburgh, NY 12901) or Hospice of the North Country (358 Tom Miller Rd, Plattsburgh, NY 12901).
