September 28, 1947 – February 25, 2024
MORRISONVILLE- Sandra A. Arruda, 76, of the Rand Hill Rd., passed away at her home with her husband and sole caregiver holding her hand.
She was born in Plattsburgh on September 28, 1947, the daughter of Herbert and Claire (Gonyea) Herron.
Sandy attended Dannemora High School, St. Peter's Academy, Spencer Business, and Hudson Valley Community College. She married Richard Arruda on March 23, 1996.'Sandy worked for NYS Police at Division Headquarter in Albany; F.W. Myers in Champlain and retired from Wyeth Research in Rouses Point, after 38 years of service. Sandy enjoyed all kinds of crafts, working in her flower gardens plus was an avid reader. She loved spending winters in Florida and going to spring training baseball games.
Survivors include her husband, Richard (Dick) Arruda; two sisters Harriet DelSole, Nancy (Robert) Carter; two nieces Lisa (Joseph) Hill, Deborah DelSole; one nephew Mark (Rachel) Carter; two great-nephews Timothy (Crissy) Carter, Matthew Hill. She is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Ann Woods, Robert (Cathy) Arruda, David Arruda, Sheila Arruda; niece Ashley (Tom) Pickering; nephews Jon (Morgan) Arruda, Ian (Samantha) Arruda. Dick's daughter Denise (Matt) Decker and grandchildren Emily and Mady; numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter Sheila Canning; a nephew Michael Carter; brothers-in-law Owen Woods, Louie DelSole and Dick's son Nathan Arruda.
A special thanks to all the Nurses and Staff of Hospice of the North Country who's care and guidance made it possible for Sandy to spend the last 18 months at home. These folks have a very hard job and they deserve your support.
Inurnment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road Schuylerville, NY 12871.
