Shannon Murphy
Mousseau
September 8, 1954 – March 4, 2026
PLATTSBURGH – Shannon M. (Murphy) Mousseau, 71, of Kansas Avenue, passed away March 4, 2026. She was born on September 8, 1954, daughter of Bernard and Peggy (Ward) Murphy, Jr. Shannon married the love of her life, Denis Mousseau on October 5, 1974 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.
Shannon graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1972. After marrying Denis, they moved to North Carolina where he was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Upon the conclusion of his Marine Corp service, they returned to Plattsburgh, where Shannon attended Clinton Community College and earned an Associates in Business Administration.
In 2024, Shannon retired from the U.S. Postal Services where she worked in various capacities spanning a 20-plus year career. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling both at home and abroad. One of her favorite places to visit was Palm Springs, California. Shannon was also a phenomenal cook, with a penchant for baking. Visitors could always count on fragrant aromas wafting from her kitchen and she was keen to ensure you didn't leave empty-handed.
As the family's designated dessert maker, her raspberry bars and chocolate chip brownies became legendary at parties. But what mattered most in life to Shannon was her family. A family she loved, cherished and cared for right until the end. A family that will deeply miss her free spirit, quick Irish wit, contagious laugh, and above all, her presence.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael P. Mousseau; siblings, Kevin Murphy and his wife Jeannine, Shane Murphy and his wife Diane, and Colleen Hynes and her husband Ken; granddaughter, Abigaile Siskavich; her two loving cats, Minnie and Scooter; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at a later date alongside her husband, Denis, at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Donations in Shannon's memory may be made to the North Country Veterans Association (27 Townline Road, PO Box 1161, Plattsburgh) or the Elmore SPCA.
