Shirley Napper, 86, of Ganong Drive, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Plattsburgh on September 16, 1929, the daughter of Clifford and Irene (Garrow) Everleth. Shirley married Ellsworth Napper on September 27, 1947 in the Saranac United Methodist Church. During her younger years, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. Shirley then stayed home to begin raising and caring for her loving family. After several years, she then went to work as a bus driver for the Saranac Central School District. During this time as a bus driver, she was proud to have driven bus for transporting individuals during the 1984 Lake Placid Olympics. Shirley was a pillar of strength and true mentor for all who knew her. She was a "Sweet, Classy Lady" and will always be known as the original "Super Mom" and "Amazing Grandmother". She was a built in babysitter for not only her family, but for so many throughout the community. Above all else, nothing brought her greater joy than caring for and being with family. Shirley enjoyed shopping with friends and family, baking goods for anyone who stopped by and canning all sorts of vegetables. One of the greatest memories she cherished was the celebration of her and Ellsworth's 50th wedding anniversary. She spoke often of how the entire family (children and grandchildren) all traveled to Maine to surprise them before their anniversary cruise on the ocean. Shirley loved the sound and beauty of the ocean and loved to walk on the beach. Survivors include her 4 children, Jean and Jeff Wray of Peru, Ricky Napper and his companion Patty Fortin of Saranac, Todd and Lisa Napper of Chazy Lake, and Pam and Scott Scholl of Dannemora; her daughter-in-law, Mary Napper of Saranac; seven grandchildren, Molly and Jim Morin, Karrie and Allan Cook, Jeff and Carrie Wray, Jr, Tammi and Evan Reil, Neil and Melissa Napper, Kristen and Kayla Napper, and Jonathan and Nathaniel Wray; 12 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Colton, Sophia, Alexander, Katherine, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Jenna, Grace, Audrey, and Henry; 2 great-great grandchildren, William and Jaxon; one brother, Gerald and Shirley Everleth of Lockport, NY; one sister, Betty and Jared Keysor of Dannemora; one sister-in-law, Jane Bull of Saranac; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Ellsworth on February 12, 2011; four sons, Robert, Lonnie, Keven, and Randy Napper; and one brother-in-law, Alvin Bull.
