Shirley P.
St. Louis
September 16, 1934 – March 9, 2021
PLATTSBURGH – Shirley P. St. Louis, 86, of the Old Military Turnpike passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at her home in the presence of all of her children, a few grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was born September 16, 1934 in Plattsburgh to William Darrah and Jennie Guyette Darrah. Her legacy began with her marriage to Stanley St. Louis in 1951. That legacy continues on today through the children she raised, the grandchildren she helped raise so her children could work and even babysitting her great grandchildren whenever possible-always a loving servant to her family.
After caring for her family and providing daycare for others, she worked for Shonbeck, X Plo and R Industries before she finally retired to enjoy the rest of her life. She loved doing crafts, teaching her daughter to crochet and teaching her great grandchildren to make fishing lures at their camp on Union Falls. She also enjoyed baking homemade bread and desserts daily for her family. She loved going berry picking, camping, fishing, feeding the birds, bunnies, turkeys and other wildlife that visited the back yard. She and Stan travelled near and far to cheer on their talented grandchildren in their various endeavors…hockey, football, baseball, soccer and community drama productions. She showed her love in her actions…creating beautiful afghans and doilies for her family. She was stainless steel to the world but soft as jello in her devotion to her children who she adored and who are all successful thanks to her tireless efforts and support. Her grandchildren are scattered throughout the country not afraid to blaze a trail for themselves where they have planted all because she instilled tenacity, strength and integrity throughout their childhood. Shirley's home was the center of our family milestones, anniversary parties, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties and let's not forget the delicious holiday meals. It was the center of our lives, filled with love, life and joy just as it was on the day of her passing.
She is survived by five children, son, Michael and his companion Karen Lopez, daughter Judy Carpenter (Daniel), son Mark (Jacqueline) son Philip (Patti) and daughter Laurie St. Louis Banker (Brent), eight grandchildren, Danielle and David Lafountin, Joshua and Lisa Lagree, Tara Lagree and Eric Deleel, Jennie and Jason Beldon, Jeremiah & Nikki St. Louis, Kara Beth Carpenter, Kesi St. Louis, Zachary St. Louis, Sonya Carpenter, Todd Carpenter, Reilly Lawless, five great grandchildren, Dade, Noah, and Thomas Beldon, Dakota and Daelynne Lafountain, one sister in law Shirley Darrah, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Stanley, her brothers Edward and Ralph, her sisters Marion, Gladys Manor, Frances Brown, Dorothy Cook, Genevieve Hart and her daughter-in-law Julie Wahl St. Louis.
There will be no public calling hours.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 15 th at 10:30 am at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville, NY.
A celebration of her and Stan's life will be held at a future date.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of the North Country for the excellent care our Mom received during her short time in their care, especially Becky Dominy, Terri Seymour and Katie LePage. We were so impressed with the tender care they gave to all of us. We also express our gratitude for the wonderful care we all received from the providers and staff at Plattsburgh Health Group, including Kelsey Juntunen who worked closely with us to meet Mom's escalating needs.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or Elmore SPCA.
