CUMBERLAND HEAD
- Spyros Peter Angelos, MD, FACS, age 87, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on October 16, 2018, surrounded by family with his wife of 60 years, Mina (Mavrias), by his side. He was born on May 3, 1931 in New York City to Peter and Nell (Gerolimatos) Angelos. Pete and his sister, Anna, grew up in Plattsburgh and he graduated from Plattsburgh High School. He attended Saint Lawrence University and received his medical degree from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He interned at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and completed his surgical training as a fellow in general surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, ME, before returning to Plattsburgh to practice general surgery at CVPH Medical Center until his retirement in 1997. Pete and Mina shared a full life together with family, friends, and canines that included camping, canoeing and fishing adventures, and a love of magic, classical guitar, harmonica, poetry, wood working, sculpture, drawing and watercolor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mina; his daughter, Anna Tosteson (Tor) of Lyme, NH; sons, Peter (Grace) of River Forest, IL, John (Grant Miller) of West Sacramento, CA, and Stephen (Twyla) of Essex Junction, VT; seven grandchildren: Philip Tosteson, Meghan Duey (Zachary), Helen Tosteson, Christian, John, Audrey, and Jason; and nieces Susan, Barbara, and Elizabeth, and nephews Nick, Andreas, and Nicholas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Anna (Boolukos). The family extends thanks to the excellent caregiving lovingly provided at Meadowbrook Healthcare. Calling hours will be October 19th from 4-7p.m at R.W. Walker Funeral home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held on October 20th at 11a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Plattsburgh.
