Obituary

PLATTSBURGH - Stanley E. St. Louis, 87, of the Old Military Turnpike in Plattsburgh, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020, at CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 11, 1933 in Plattsburgh, NY, to Leander St. Louis and Viola (Darrah) St. Louis.

Growing up, Stanley served as an altar boy at St. Peter's Church and was an active athlete, excelling at baseball and basketball. Soon after graduating high school, he met the one love of his life, Shirley Patricia Darrah. They married in 1951 and were together for 69 joyous years.

He started his career as a stock boy at the Plattsburgh Grocery, and within two years, he became general manager. He held that job until his retirement nearly 40 years later. Stanley was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, and he enjoyed quiet mornings hunting in the woods or casting a line on the river. He spent much of his spare time outdoors with his children, whether camping, hunting, fishing, or cheering them on at sporting events. For many years, he was a member of the Pine Ridge Bowmen Archery Club, and he often reminisced about his year as the club's champion archer. He was also the president of the Mt. Matumbla Hunting Club in Tupper Lake, NY.

In his later years, he enjoyed watching his Boston Red Sox defeat the New York Yankees, and rooting for his Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made a second home in the Crystal River area in Florida, where he spent his days fishing and enjoying time with his loving wife.

He is survived by his five children: son Michael St. Louis and his companion Karen Lopez, daughter Judy Carpenter and husband Daniel, son Mark St. Louis and wife Jackie, son Philip St. Louis and companion Patti Crowley, and daughter Laurie Banker and husband Brent; seven grandchildren, Danielle Lafountain and husband David, Joshua LaGree and wife Lisa, Tara Lagree and companion Eric Deleel, Jennie Beldon and husband Jason, Kara Carpenter, Kesi St. Louis, Reilly Lawless, Zachary St. Louis and Jeremiah St. Louis and wife Nikki; and five great-grandchildren, Dade, Noah, and Thomas Beldon, and Dakota and Daelynne Lafountain. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law Genevieve Hart, Edna Darrah, and Shirley Darrah, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Shirley Ralph, and brother Sidney St. Louis.

There will be no public calling hours.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 5th at 1:00 pm at St. Alexander's Church In Morrisonville.

A celebration of his life will be held at a future date as per Stan's wishes.
