SARANAC- Vivian M. Nazak, 98, of Saranac, NY, formerly of Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Monday March 23, 2020 at CVPH Medical Center.
She was born February 26, 1922, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Adolphus and Elizabeth (Lapham) Florentine. Vivian attended St. Peter's School and D'Youville Academy in Plattsburgh.
Survivors include a daughter, Shari Nazak-Dolan, daughter-in-law, Gail Nazak, grandchildren Brittany and Connor Dolan, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband John M. (Jack) Nazak, son Richard "Rick" Nazak, and stepson John R. Nazak and his wife Florence.
Vivian worked for Pal Blade from 1942-1944, then moved to Delaware to take a job with the U.S. Army. She was especially proud of her duties as a civilian truck driver transporting German prisoners of war at Fort DuPont. After the war, she worked as an operator for NY Telephone in Plattsburgh for 8 years before taking a few years off to raise her children. She went on to a 20 year career with the USAF in Plattsburgh as a supply clerk for the civil engineering department, retiring in 1984.
Vivian lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed a variety of activities including horseback riding, fishing, square dancing and playing cards. She loved volunteering in community and church organizations, and socializing with family and friends. Vivian was known for her generous, good-hearted nature, as well as her stubborn and fearless determination.
If you asked Vivian what the key to longevity is, she would say "do as much as you can, for as long as you can do it..... and eat plenty of ice cream!"
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
