June 2, 1931 – October 5, 2019
CADYVILLE – Walton H. Bull, 88, passed away October 5, 2019 at CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Walt was born on June 2, 1931 in Dannemora. He was the son of Seth and Cecile Bull of Cadyville. Walt attended Plattsburgh High School. After high school he moved to Poughkeepsie and was a fireman at Hudson River State Hospital. In July of 1951 he joined the United States Marine Corp. During his enlistment he was an MP and completed two tours in the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean War Service Medal with 3 stars and the UN Service Medal. Walt was very proud to have served his country and wholeheartedly believed "Once a Marine Always a Marine".
After his separation from the military in 1954 he moved back and started working at Dannemora Dairy. In 1956 he began his career with NYSDOCS as an officer at Dannemora State Hospital/Clinton prison.
He became reacquainted with the love of his life, Jean Manley in 1956. They married on May 25, 1957 and were together 61 years before Jean's passing on July 7, 2018.
He was also an entrepreneur. Along with his wife they began selling officer uniforms, used cars and eventually began their RV dealership "Walton H. Bull Trailer Sales".
He retired from the prison in 1985 but continued operating the dealership for many years along with managing their rental properties.
Walt enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp on Lake Champlain and operating heavy equipment at his home. He also enjoyed cruising with his wife in their convertible and taking a ride on his Harley-Davidson.
Walt is survived by his daughter, Monica and her husband, Tim LaPier of Plattsburgh, daughter Michelle, and her husband Michael Mahorney of Cadyville, son, Michel Bull of Altona, daughter, Missy and husband, Neil Napper of Cadyville, daughter, Mindy and husband, Travis Cayea of Cadyville; nine grandchildren, Bridget, Adam, Bradley, Brandon, Audrey, Gabe, Nate, Henry and Iris; seven great-grandchildren, Lily, Logan, Liam, Briella, Lydia, Levi and Helen and two sisters, Ann and husband, Ed Chester of Glenview, IL and Jean Baker of Plattsburgh.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, daughter, Marianne and brother, Rance Bull.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North Country Honor Flight supporting our local veterans.
