WEST CHAZY – Wendell Wells, 83, of Stratton Hill Road, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born on March 9, 1941, son of Russell and Helen (Matott) Wells.
In his younger years, he began working for Homer West Construction and installed some of the first inground pools in the area. Wendell went on to work at the Quarry for a short time and then began his own construction business, Wells Construction. He was a master craftsman who could build anything. Wendell built many houses throughout the area and also during this time, worked for the Plattsburgh Telephone Company, where he repaired and maintained their properties. Then in his later years, he enjoyed driving truck until his health began to fail.
When he was not working, Wendell enjoyed spending weekends at their camp in Loon Lake where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed helping his son Michael with his racecar No. 76, better known as, "Pop's Toy".
Wendell married the love of his life, the former Alice Daniels, on July 14, 1960 at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Together they enjoyed "wintering" in Florida for over 20 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Wells; children, Penney (Steve) Hogan, Michael Wells, and David Wells; grandchildren, Nichole Menard, Michael (Kari) Wells, Jr., Kagen Wells, Kelsie Wells (Dustin) and Camden Wells; several great-grandchildren; and nephews, Kevin (Tina) Nelson, and Keith Nelson.
Wendell was predeceased by his sister, Sharron Nelson.
Graveside service will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Ingraham Cemetery.
