Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – William H. Brown, 83, of Cooper Drive, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home.

He was born in Port Washington, NY on May 3, 1936, the son of Kenneth and Mabel (Close) Brown.

William graduated from Washington High School in 1954; he received his Bachelors Degree from Durham University in New Hampshire in 1958. Bill was First Lieutenant Artillery in the Army. After his honorable discharge, he received his New York State Teacher Certification in 1963, his Masters Degree from Long Island University in 1965 and his post graduate work at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, working for Tahal for the Government Water Commission of Israel during Yom Kippur War.

He was the earth science teacher at North Shore High School on Long Island. On June 27, 1982 he married Virginia "Marita" Larkham at St. Joseph's Chapel at Holy Cross University in Worcester Massachusetts. On weekends Bill was the commander of the Harbor Patrol in Glen Grove, NY. He was a tennis pro and a marksmen, taking 3rdplace in his last national competition in 2007 at Camp Perry in Ohio. He was also a member of the Siberian Gun Club in Dannemora for many years.

Bill loved teaching so much that he came out of retirement to help Seton Central School with the Earth Science Regents.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Marita" Brown; his daughters, Ellyn N. Quiggle and Sally M. LaVista; grandchildren, Bryan Morrow, Gabryelle Quiggle, and Nicollette LaVista.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 29th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:30 a.m.
