PLATTSBURGH: Gordon E. Monty, 76, of Beekman Towers and formerly of Ingraham, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home. He was born in West Chazy on November 30, 1936, the son of George and Margaret (Powers) Monty. Mr. Monty married the former Norma Terry at St. Josephs Church in Coopersville on June 11, 1966. He was a former member of St. Josephs Church in West Chazy. Mr. Monty played shuffleboard for the Weathercock Team in Chazy from 1966 to the early 1970s and was a former member of the Chazy Lions Club. In later years, he was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed gardening. He also loved having his grandchildren come to visit. Mr. Monty was a 1955 graduate of Chazy Central Rural School. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force and served from 1955 " 1959. He then worked at Montys Service Station on Rt. 9 North and at Phils Dry Cleaning for several years. Mr. Monty worked at Georgia Pacific for 33 years, retiring in 1999. Survivors include his wife Norma; two sons, Russell Monty and his wife Julie of Beekmantown and Steven Monty of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Gerald Monty and his wife Rosemary of W. Chazy and James Monty of Plattsburgh; one sister, Janet Reid of W. Chazy; four grandchildren, Tyler, Vincent and Katelin Monty and Troy Ouellette, and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Hubert Monty and one sister, Doris Barcomb both died earlier. Donations, in Gordons memory, may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or Hospice of the North Country.
