PLATTSBURGH: John E. OHara, 90, formerly of Trafalgar Dr. and Pine Harbour Assisted Living Facility, died Saturday morning, August 25, 2012, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. He was born in Champlain on December 15, 1921 the son of John J. and Ruth (Allard) OHara. Mr. OHara married his childhood sweetheart, the former Marion Blair on August 28, 1943. Marion died August 24, 2012. He attended the Newman Center in Plattsburgh. John graduated from Holy Cross College and received Masters and Doctorate degrees from Columbia University. He had a long, distinguished and successful career in both the business and academic worlds. Former employers include; Republic Aviation, ITT, American Can and the S&H Corporation. For his retirement , he taught in the Business Dept. of Plattsburgh State University for over 20 years. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Robert OHara of Chicago, Dr. Dennis OHara of Plattsburgh and Kevin OHara and his wife Kelly of Traverse City, MI; one sister, Marguerite Monty and her husband Carl of Albany, NY; six grandchildren, Kevin B., Kelly L. Ian, Keegan, Sean and Brendon OHara and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Bernard OHara, died earlier. Calling hours will be held Saturday September 1, 2012 from 10 am to 12 pm at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY. There will be no public funeral service. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery in Champlain, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
