PLATTSBURGH---John F. Winters, Sr., 66, of Charlene Drive, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at his home. He was born in Owego, NY on November 12, 1943 the son of Ward and Jane McConnell. John married Dianna Nephew on June 4, 1966 at St. Josephs church in West Chazy. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. John worked as a truck driver for the Town of Chazy Highway Department. He was a member of the VFW Post #1418 in Champlain and the American Legion Post#769 in Chazy. John enjoyed painting, snow plowing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Dianna Petuna Winters of Plattsburgh; my boys Jeff and Debra Winters of Mooers, John Jr. and Donna Winters of Athens, TN and Chris and Deanna Winters of Chazy; my girls Sandy and Bob Kimball of Plattsburgh, Sharon Bushey of Plattsburgh, Lisa and Fred Gagnier of Malone and Jennifer and Eric Bowman of Chazy; one sister, Joyce Gochenaur of Waverly, NY: nine grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Winters, Heather Brothers, Nicky Bushey and John Munson, Bryce Winters, Kaitlynn Caron, Isaac Bowman and Maddox Gagnier and one great-grandson, Kaiden Burdo. He was predeceased by his parents, Ward and Jane McConnell. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Peters Church. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or Hospice Care of the North Country. A reception will immediately follow at the VFW on the Spellman Road in Beekmantown.
