Lois Sheats' Obituary
Lois Sheats, 91, passed away June 17, 2018 at her home on Cumberland Head with her loving family by her side.
She was born Lois Anne Bennett in Brunswick, N.J., the daughter and first child of Dr. William Bennett and Martha (Clark).
She grew up in Schenectady, N.Y. where she attended Nott Terrace High School. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 1949 with a BA in History. There she met her husband George F. Sheats, a graduate student studying Physical Chemistry. After George's graduation they lived in Stamford, Conn., moving to Plattsburgh, N.Y. in 1962. Lois worked for Tundra Books and Planned Parenthood of Northern N.Y. and was an active volunteer with several organizations in Clinton County N.Y. In particular, she enjoyed time with friends from the SUNY Plattsburgh Faculty Wives, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, as a Docent at SUNY Plattsburgh, and playing bridge with several bridge groups. She was also an avid knitter with everyone in her family benefiting from her skill.
Lois is survived by her children, Carol and Carol's husband David Henseler of Maplewood, Minn., David and his wife Betsy (Farrell) of Plattsburgh, and Jeffery and his wife Jean (De For) of Rogers, Minn.; as well as five grandchildren, Levi Sheats, Livingston and his wife Elizabeth Sheats, Bailey Sheats, Matthew and his wife Kendra Henseler, Laura Henseler; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and brothers, William and John Bennett.
At her request there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Plattsburgh at a future date. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in Crete, Neb.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois's name to Hospice of the North Country.
